Mesa Market Mojo Report Sep 2015

W A L K S   A N D   T A L K S

To promote the Mesa Loop Trail and neighborhood walking in general, the Mesa Architects have sponsored a series of neighborhood “Walks and Talks” over the last four months. On a Saturday of each month, docents have lead groups on walks around one of the four quadrants of the Mesa.

Walks and Talks -sep2015Saturday, September 12, will be the last walk of the year. Mesa Architect Dennis Thompson will lead a walk through the East Alta Mesa. The group will meet at the upper parking lot of Holy Cross Church (on Dolores St.) at 9:00 AM.

After hearing about the Mesa Harmony Garden, we will walk up Dolores Street to the ridgeline of the Mesa, passing a quiet residential neighborhood that was built in the late 1950’s.

After we crest the ridge, we will turn on La Coronilla to Carrillo Street and find the trail into the Honda Valley Open Space. On this short and narrow path, we will be rewarded with wonderful city and mountain views. Then we will drop into the wider section of the Honda Valley trail, where naturalist Dan Gira will inform us about the flora and fauna of this relatively wild part of the Mesa.

market-mojo-sep2015At the end of the trail, almost to Cliff Drive, we will turn and retrace our steps out to Miramonte, then return to the start down Carrillo Street.

The full walk will be about three miles and take about two and a half hours. (For those wanting to skip the walk on city streets and just hike through the Open Space, park on Miracanon Lane and meet at the marked trailhead by 9:30; someone will lead this group
to join with the other walkers. You will walk about a mile and be back to your start in about an hour and a half.)

Bring water, wear good walking shoes, and be prepared for one short steep gravel section inside Honda Valley.
